Things are not going well at 1. FC Saarbrücken at the moment. The club acted – and split from the coach. His successor has been chosen and is well acquainted with the people of Saarland.
1. FC Saarbrücken draws conclusions from the sport’s ongoing decline: The third division team has parted ways with coach Alois Schwartz – “by mutual agreement,” as the club announced on Tuesday. After eight league games without a win, sporting director Jürgen Luginger temporarily took charge of the team until the winter break.
This 57 year old man is no stranger to Saarland residents. Between 2010 and 2014 he was on the sidelines as head coach. “It is natural for me to take responsibility at this stage,” Luginger said in a club statement. “Together with the team, we will do everything we can to create stability and have a successful final game before the winter break.”
Apart from Schwartz, assistant coach Dimitrios Moutas also had to leave the club. Luginger will be supported in the FCS in the future by Karsten Specht, head of the youth performance center.
After a good start with second place after seven days of competition, Saarbrücken has recently slipped to twelfth position. 1860 Munich’s 2-0 defeat on Sunday was its fourth defeat in the last five games.
Schwartz only took over the position at the end of April. Under his leadership, the club achieved third place and relegation last season, but fell short there at Eintracht Braunschweig.
