After a month of concern, the extent of the data leak at the French Shooting Federation (FFTir) is becoming increasingly clear. According to information collected by CheckNews to the Paris prosecutor’s office, the hack that occurred on the weekend of October 18-19 on the organization’s computer system, “by compromising internal accounts”, concerns the personal information of 250,000 members and 750,000 former members (some of whom are no doubt deceased). The first consequence is the increase in robberies or attempted thefts of weapons since the beginning of November from the homes of federation license holders, for example in Nice, Limoges or Paris. “This data is used to commit theft through burglary or use of fake quality, most of which are stolen weapons,” justify prosecution.

CheckNews, for its part, it was noted in an illegal online forum that a user had offered for sale, since the beginning of November, a database that he presented as the result of this hack. To prove that he actually had this information, he published an example of it, a common practice on this type of platform. Several dozen entries appear, including names, birth dates, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, license numbers and recent, sometimes old, membership dates.
