From the point of view of CDU state leader Manuel Hagel, Chinese companies should not be involved in expanding the power grid in Baden-Württemberg. “Chinese companies have no place in the country’s critical infrastructure,” Hagel said at a panel discussion at the Association of Baden-Württemberg Chambers of Commerce and Industry (BWIHK) in Stuttgart.

Hagel relies on EnBW

In Baden-Württemberg there is a need to expand the electricity network worth billions of dollars. Huawei offers to do that. But he wants to rely on legal planning, public-private partnership projects and EnBW, Hagel said. In legal planning, for example, location is determined by law.

When building fast 5G mobile networks, there is a controversial debate about whether the use of components from Chinese company Huawei poses a security risk.
