2nd Bundesliga: “Amazing football city”: Backhaus returns to Berlin

Heiner Backhaus knows Berlin still as a player for 1. FC Union and as coach of BFC Dynamo. The 43-year-old now works as head coach of Eintracht Braunschweig and is looking forward to his return to “a great football city” before the second division clash at Hertha BSC (Friday, 18.30/Sky).

At his press conference for the Hertha match, Backhaus praised Berlin’s “extreme competitive advantage”: “What opportunities there are in this city: just the raw material of talent, how many super players there are,” he said. “You don’t need to look all over Germany. You can basically put three tram lines together and they’ll all work. I think it’s crazy how much talent there is in this city. You can only be envious. We don’t have that in Braunschweig.”

Personal competition Herta The former Union player and BFC coach wasn’t having it. “Union and Hertha were friends during the GDR era,” he said. “If I’m honest, Hertha has become an institution.”
