2nd Bundesliga
Šimić’s two goals were not enough for KSC – 2:3 against Elversberg
Karlsruher SC made up for two deficits. But in the end the hosts were again left empty-handed in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Two goals from Roko Šimić were not enough for Karlsruher SC to pick up a point against SV Elversberg. The newcomer, who has been underperforming for a long time, twice made up for the deficit in the 2:3 (0:1) minutes (62/83 minutes). However, in extra time, coach Christian Eichner’s Baden team had to receive the next goal from Felix Keidel (90+4).
KSC is stuck in the middle of the standings and has missed connections to the top teams in the 2nd Bundesliga. A crucial mistake by veteran defender Marcel Franke also led to a second successive league defeat.
A gift from KSC defense
The starting point for Elversberg’s lead was a pass from KSC goalkeeper Hans Christian Bernat to Franke. The defender abused the ball against the on-rushing former Karlsruher Bambasé Conté – and Younes Ebnoutalib was able to easily finish after crossing (26). Franke had taken penalties in previous matches in a 2-1 win against FC Schalke 04 and a 0-4 defeat at Bielefeld.
Apart from Ebnoutalib, Lukas Petkov (66) also successfully welcomed his guests. In front of a crowd of 31,909, Elversberg threatened to miss out on the win they wanted despite the odds being greater – but then Keidel made amends for the visitors.
