One episode of vigilance replaced another episode of vigilance in France. Météo France has placed the Gironde, Dordogne and Corrèze on orange alert on Monday, November 24 due to the risk of rain flooding, as heavy rain continues in the South West. An orange warning will be in place from 10am on Monday and is expected to remain in place until 6pm, when the rain moves south.
The expected accumulation could cause major flooding in some rivers, especially the Isle and Vézère, which are already under monitoring, according to Vigicrues. According to the 6 o’clock bulletin, in three departments, “accumulation of 50 to 60 mm, locally 70 mm or more, widely expected over 24 hours”.
“In the last 12 hours, we recorded a fairly extensive 20 to 40 mm along the Gironde axis / Correct”, further determines the meteorological agency. Therefore, authorities call for caution, especially near flood zones and open roads.
Rainfall accumulations will also be abundant in the departments of Ain, Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie, which will remain on yellow alert. “Transition to orange alert is not excluded in these departments”Météo-France stressed, recommending travel restrictions in the relevant regions.
On Sunday, the removal of the snow/ice system (also orange) across the region was announced in the morning following a snowfall that particularly impacted Ile-de-France and the Massif Central.
