Author of more than 45 novels, Christian Signol chronicles the clash between ranchers and wolf advocates by giving voice “to everyone, whether for or against wolves.”

The Foundation’s 30 million friends novel prize was awarded on Wednesday 26 November to Christian Signol for his book wild beauty, in which he recounts the clash between ranchers and wolf defenders.

Through the story of the fate of a threatened pack of wolves, the author “giving everyone a voice, whether for or against wolves. This is a very important approach”, jury president Reha Hutin said at the awards ceremony in Paris.

Christian Signol, author of more than 45 novels, published this novel in mid-September by Albin Michel.

Contacted by telephone by a jury consisting in particular of writer Irène Frain and former president of the Goncourt academy Didier Decoin, writer Corrèze said he “very delighted” to know that the award was given to him unanimously.

The 30 Million Friends Essay Prize was awarded to Sandra Kollender for Snoopy, a do-gooder dogpublished by Solar editions.

“Unfortunately the dog can’t be with us today, he is in therapy,” said Sandra Kollender. His essay, written with a team from the Curie Institute, traces the story of a shelter dog who becomes a member of a paramedic team.

This is the 43rd edition of the award, which annually awards novels that highlight animals. Eleven novels and nine essays were nominated this year.
