2024 – Tech billionaire Elon Musk is expected to help US President-elect Donald Trump cut government spending. He will be part of the leadership of the newly created advisory body and will not be part of the government.
2015 – Police found the bodies of eight babies in a house in Wallenfels, Upper Franconia (Bavaria). They are wrapped in towels and plastic bags. The children’s mother was sentenced to 14 years in prison for murder in 2016.
1990 – Emperor Akihito is crowned as the 125th king of Japan in Tokyo. He had taken over official duties after the death of his father Hirohito on January 7, 1989. At the end of April 2019, he abdicated in favor of his son Naruhito.
1970 – A cyclone with tidal waves as high as 230 kilometers per hour and one meter high hit Bangladesh (then East Pakistan). At least 300,000 people died in the densely populated Ganges Delta due to the most powerful cyclone in recent history.
1955 – Federal Defense Minister Theodor Blank (CDU) presented the first 101 volunteers of what would become the Bundeswehr with their appointment certificates. This officially completed the founding of the Bundeswehr.
