At Nuremberg Central Station, a mother loses sight of her severely disabled daughter. Federal police launch a manhunt – with an unexpected goal.

An accidental accident at Nuremberg Central Station on Thursday (11/6/2025) turned into an odyssey lasting several hours across Germany. As the federal police in Munich just announced, a 57-year-old woman lost sight of her severely disabled daughter – and she ended up more than 400 kilometers away in Berlin.

At around 09.30, the woman and her two daughters wanted to board an ICE train bound for Würzburg on platform 6. Only after the train left did she realize that her 26-year-old daughter had remained on the platform. This young woman relies on the help of her family members because of her severe disability.

Arriving at Würzburg main station, the mother immediately took the next train back to Nuremberg. But her daughter was no longer found on the platform. The distraught woman went to federal police.

An officer from the Nuremberg Federal Police Inspectorate then evaluated the video footage from the platform. The footage shows that the helpless woman remained on the platform for half an hour before she finally boarded the ICE bound for Berlin.

Nuremberg federal police officers immediately alerted their colleagues in Berlin. The train has arrived there. A federal police patrol managed to find the severely disabled woman in the front hall of Berlin Central Station.

Officials in Nuremberg and Berlin are working together to arrange the 26-year-old’s return as quickly as possible. The woman drove about 400 kilometers back to Nuremberg in an ICE Sprinter accompanied by a railway employee. Shortly before 9 p.m. the family reunites and hugs happily.
