Ukraine’s Minister of Justice was dismissed due to a corruption scandal in the energy sector
Ukraine’s Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko has been suspended in connection with a corruption investigation. Halushchenko, who served as energy minister until the summer, has been relieved of his duties, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced online on Wednesday. Ukraine is currently rocked by a corruption scandal in the energy sector.
The National Anti-Corruption Office (NABU) carried out raids in the energy sector on Monday. This was preceded by a 15-month investigation. Investigators accused President Volodymyr Zelensky’s confidant, Timur Minditsch, of widespread corruption. “About $100 million” (86 million euros) has been spent.
The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (Sapo) accused Halushchenko of involvement in the scandal. He accused him of receiving “personal benefits” from Minditsch in exchange for control over money flows in the energy sector.
