Screams, fast steps, panicked children: an audio recording of the kidnapping is played during the blocking process. Christina Block appears to be very shaken.

A tense moment Wednesday in the trial against Christina Block and six other defendants: The court played a total of nine audio recordings. You can hear how Block’s children, Klara and Theodor, were kidnapped by several men on New Year’s Eve 2023/2024.

This demonstration was made possible by the emergency button that Theodor, then ten years old, wore around his neck. Danish police have equipped the boys with alarm devices because officers fear the current situation: the kidnapping of the children from the care of their father, Stephan Hensel, who is in a custody dispute with his ex-wife and lives with the children in Denmark.

Theodor pressed the button several times to establish contact with the police. The recording lasts a total of half an hour. It was as if those present in the courtroom witnessed the kidnapping directly.

Heavy breathing, gasping and unintelligible sounds can be heard, as well as voices in Hebrew: The kidnapping, which Christina Block allegedly ordered, according to prosecutors, was carried out by Israeli citizens.

Sometimes it seems like a child wants to say something. But apparently he couldn’t speak. Maybe because it’s clogged.

Whining sounded repeatedly. Then 13 year old Klara screamed loudly and looked very panicked. At one point in the recording, a child can be heard anxiously asking in English: “What happened to my dad?” The kidnappers replied, also in English: “Just breathe. You can’t talk now. You’re going home to mom.”

When the child answered that he did not want that and shouted “No”, a kidnapper threatened: “Shut up if you don’t want any trouble.” The child started crying, then a kidnapper ordered the child to listen carefully. The rest is incomprehensible – until the clearly intimidated child says he won’t cry any more.

Another time someone shouted “Help!” out loud twice. Several thumping sounds can be heard in the background. According to prosecutors, employees of an Israeli security company attacked the father on New Year’s Eve near his home in southern Denmark. Then they drove with the children to the front of the Danish-German border and reached the German side on foot through the forest. One of the seven defendants, a detained Israeli citizen, made a comprehensive confession to the crime.

Block and her ex-husband Stephan Hensel listened to the recording in complete shock. “This is a shocking picture,” said Block’s attorney, Ingo Bott. He also saw that his client was very surprised. No mother would want anything like that for her children.
