Bundesliga: Bad news for Sandro Wagner – the FCA captain has been forced to rest! | sport

Despite their good performance, FC Augsburg suffered their fourth defeat in a row with a 2-3 loss at Stuttgart on Sunday.

Now there is further bad news for coach Sandro Wagner (37)!

Captain and defender Jeffrey Gouweleeuw (34) suffered another medial ligament injury in his right knee. This was revealed from inspections on Monday and Tuesday. As announced by FC Augsburg, the 34 year old player even had to undergo surgery this time.

It is unlikely that the Dutchman will play for Wagner again this calendar year. As BILD knows, Augsburg is expected to be out for longer, although this depends on the healing process after surgery.

So bitter!

On matchday four against Mainz (1:4), Gouweleeuw tore the medial ligament in the same knee and was sidelined for several weeks. Last week, the veteran returned to team training and traveled to Stuttgart to help the team in a tough away game. The Dutch player initially sat on the bench and came on to replace Noahkai Banks (18) in the 62nd minute.

Gouweleeuw has battled repeated injuries this year. After the defender, whose contract expires next summer, suffered a broken left hand last January, the Dutch player suffered a fracture in his right hand in the preparatory match against Sunderland (0-1) last August and underwent surgery. Just a week later he was there again in the cup win over third division Halle (2-0) – with two special goals.

Like his first knee injury, this time he may have to rest longer.
