The new Peugeot 208 was presented a year earlier, considering that its market launch is scheduled for the end of 2026. However, the definitive version can still be imagined today thanks to the Polygon concept car. If the production version of the 208 in 2026 is confirmed to be less futuristic, its silhouette should take inspiration not only from the GTi, but also from a concept featuring the same direction taken by the brand in the cockpit, with the option of a new rectangular steering wheel, marked Hypersquare, and anticipated by another concept, the 2023 Inception.
The platform is STLA Small and the new i-Cockpit has steer-by-wire
The new generation 208 will be based on the STLA Small platform and will debut in an electric version only. Two batteries are proposed, 37 kWh and 82 kWh, with greater autonomy than currently expected. But there is no doubt that Peugeot will offer combustion engines and nild hybrids to be offered in parallel with the electric engines. The new i-Cockpit evolution involves the use of a steer-by-wire system, electronic steering with no connection between the steering wheel and the wheels, guaranteeing greater reactivity. A novelty for Stellantis that will be adopted in future Peugeots.
