A special video is attracting attention around the anniversary. Duchess Meghan used archival material to honor her husband Prince Harry.
Five years ago, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan stepped down from their royal duties, leaving the United Kingdom and seeking a new home in California. Meghan is now following the traditions of the British royal family in her new home.
November 11 is Remembrance Day, a day of remembrance in the Commonwealth to remember soldiers who died in war and their families. The British royals also take part in events marking the occasion every year – and Meghan took part in them too. On Tuesday he posted a video on Instagram showing Prince Harry on a mission overseas in Afghanistan in 2013. The clip shows the 28-year-old interrupting the interview when an alarm goes off – and immediately being joined by other soldiers.
The video is paired with a recent photo of Harry with a war veteran. You can see the image if you click to the right on the post below.
In her message, Meghan thanked “all who have served, sacrificed and continue to serve.” She also wrote: “As my husband always says, once you serve, you serve forever.”
Recently, Harry visited reservists from the Queen’s Own Rifles and the Royal Canadian Regiment in Toronto. There he spoke about the challenges of combining civilian work and military service – a tradition that dates back to the Second World War.
Princess Kate also remembered the dead at a ceremony at the National Memorial Arboretum and laid a wreath. Wearing a black suit and two red poppies on his lapel, he stood in remembrance in silence.
Prince William also spoke in a video message to schoolchildren: Remembrance Day is a “moment of respite” where “we learn from courage and pass on stories so they are not forgotten.” Anyone wearing a red poppy should say: “Thank you. We have not forgotten you – and we will not.”
