A German man fell from a height of 30 meters in the Ammergau Alps. A month later, his worst fears were confirmed.

A German climber died from serious injuries a month after falling in the Ammergau Alps. Bavarian police announced this on Wednesday.

The 75-year-old man from the Landsberg am Lech district was on a climbing route north of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on October 15. Near the August Schuster House, a lodge run by the German Alpine Club, a senior fell about 30 meters on steep, rocky terrain.

He suffered serious injuries to his head and back, but was initially rescued by helicopter and taken to a clinic. He had received “intensive medical treatment” there over the past few weeks, police said. But he finally died on Tuesday night.

The alpine police special task force took over the investigation on the day of the incident. Now the prosecutor’s office has also intervened in the case to clarify why the man fell into the depths.

It wasn’t until Monday that police found another fallen mountaineer from Germany. The 32-year-old man was on the German-Austrian border in the Anniversary Trail area in the Alps when he fell about 100 meters. When his brother lost contact with the adventurer, he alerted the mountain rescue service. Eventually, emergency services found the 32-year-old’s lifeless body under a larch wall – any help came too late for him.
