Manchester United-PSG women: Parisiennes lose for the third time in 3 Champions League matches

Paris Saint-Germain’s women’s European campaign is turning into a nightmare. Already defeated by Wolfsburg (4-0) and Real Madrid (1-2), in their first two matches in the Champions League phase, the Parisiennes suffered a third defeat this Wednesday evening against Manchester United (2-1), at the magnificent Old Trafford stadium.

It was the French woman who made PSG suffer. At the center of the Mancunian attack, former Lyonnaise Melvine Malard opened the scoring after half an hour of play by easily beating Griedge Mbock, who was too soft in his duel. However, before the break, Olga Carmona restored parity by sending a superb left-footed strike into Middleton-Patel’s top corner.

Therefore, hope was real in the first half, and Paris’ confidence was there. However, in the 58th minute, their enthusiasm was dampened by Fridolina Rolfö, who was at the far post to head in Anna Sandberg’s cross. Despite their dominance and few chances, the Parisiennes were never able to come back in the game.

After three matches, PSG Women’s record in the Champions League is poor. With zero points, they are stuck at the bottom of the rankings with AS Roma and St Polten. Only the first 12 teams out of 18 will qualify for the remainder of the competition. Therefore, they will have to do better against Bayern Munich (8) next Thursday, then against Louvain (9) and Benfica (15) in December.
