Five meters long, a range of up to 700 kilometers, semi-autonomous driving function and a completely new design: VW ID. Unxy 08 is a change in every way. However, this is still out of reach for German buyers.
VW introduces an electric SUV that will never reach Europe. ID.Unyx 08 was created in collaboration with Chinese partner Anhui (JAC). At five meters long, 1.95 meters wide and 1.68 meters high, it is larger than the Touareg and almost half a meter longer than the ID.4. The 3.03 meter wheelbase allows plenty of space for passengers and luggage.
The front of the ID.Unyx 08 appears closed, the VW logo in the middle flanked by slim, elongated LED headlights. At the rear, the signature lights extend across the entire width of the vehicle, the brand logo shines in the center, and a striking roof-edge spoiler sits above it. Controversial retractable door handles are particularly striking, while collapsible trailer hitches have so far been rare on electric vehicles.
The ID.Unyx 08 is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The rear-wheel drive version produces 230 kW (313 hp) on the road, while the all-wheel drive version adds 140 kW (190 hp) to the front. Batteries from supplier CATL provide energy and, according to Chinese measurements, enable a range of up to 700 kilometers.
The level 2 semi-autonomous driving function (see table) and AI-powered operating concept are intended to make driving more comfortable. All systems can be kept up to date via software updates.
Price and start of sales in China are currently unknown. There are no plans to export to Europe. However, this has already been applied to the VW ID.Unyx – and it is now successfully sold in Europe as the Cupra Tavascan.
