Coalition Committee: Söder talks about “economic infarction” and calls for cheaper energy supplies

Before the coalition committee summit, CSU leader Markus Söder called for a quick decision on cheaper energy supplies. “Only with cheaper energy supplies can we maintain jobs and industrial enterprises in the country – and guarantee prosperity,” said the Bavarian Prime Minister of the “Augsburger Allgemeine”.

The German economy urgently needs industrial electricity prices so that companies can remain internationally competitive. “That’s why a clear decision is needed,” said Söder. He demanded that new gas-fired power plants planned by CDU Economy Minister Katherina Reiche be located primarily in southern Germany. “The heart of the German economy beats in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Anyone who ignores this risks economic collapse for the entire country.”

Southern countries are pushing the expansion of renewable energy vigorously. “But the need for energy is huge.” Current levels can only be maintained with a stable and reliable energy supply from new gas-fired power plants.

In a dispute over plans to end the use of combustion engines in the European Union, he called on the SPD to give in to stop the regulation. “Of course we are committed to expanding electromobility,” said Söder. “Nevertheless, our automakers need more technological freedom and openness in international competition after 2035.” Because: “The automotive industry is the backbone of our economy.”

Union and SPD leaders will meet in the evening for a coalition committee meeting, which will discuss, among other things, further measures to stimulate the economy.
