In Toulouse, Emmanuel Macron warned of the “brutalization” of the war in space and unveiled a new strategy

The plan had been planned for months and frequently postponed due to government instability. The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, was finally inaugurated, Wednesday 12 November, in Toulouse, the new “strategy” a global approach to space, which for the first time, and for the next fifteen years, constitutes a joint course for civil and military actors in this field in the midst of upheaval, with France facing a major risk of dropping out of the program if no action is taken.

“Space has become a battlefield (…), our time is the brutality of this new domain”, warned the Head of State during the presentation of this document prepared by the Secretariat General of National Defense and Security. “Today’s war has been fought in outer space, and tomorrow’s war will start in outer space. Let’s prepare, this will be a condition for successful military operations on land, air and sea”he added.

To complement this doctrinal exercise, the unveiling of the new 2025-2040 strategy coincided with the inauguration of a new building for the space command, which currently consists of approximately 300 personnel. An 11,000 square meter building intended to embody the “heart” of French space, on a site that, since July, has been the first French military base for space purposes under the code name BA 101.
