South Apennines-Sogesid Basin Authority Agreement

The Southern Apennines District Basin Authority and Sogesid Spa, the state engineering company, have signed a Framework Agreement strengthening institutional collaboration on strategic issues such as land protection, water protection and integrated water resources management. “The agreement – clear in the joint note – aims to promote joint initiatives for efficient and sustainable regional governance, with special attention to the South as a key region for the development of innovative models of water and environmental management in the Mediterranean”.

The agreement was signed by Vera Corbelli, secretary general of the Watershed Authority, and Errico Stravato, CEO of Sogesid Spa. The main objectives include: defining joint operational proposals of government interest and enhancing joint methodological approaches, also in the field of international cooperation, to face the challenge of climate change.

The agreement also provides the possibility to entrust Sogesid with specialized technical specialist services in the fields of hydrogeological risk mitigation, water infrastructure and district governance, guaranteeing full compliance with efficiency and sustainability criteria.

“With this Agreement – stated Corbelli – we strengthen a model of inter-agency cooperation focused on knowledge, integrated planning and shared responsibility in land management. The aim is to build an effective and timely response to important environmental and hydrogeological issues and at the same time implement integrated and sustainable governance in the South and the country.”

Stravato underlines that “the collaboration with the Basin Authority represents an important recognition of the technical and operational role of Sogesid Spa, which for thirty years has supported public administrations in the planning and implementation of interventions for territorial protection, water resources management and environmental restoration. This is an ongoing commitment in the name of sustainability and administrative efficiency”.

The agreement also provides for the activation of a joint working group composed of experts from the Authority and the Company, tasked with identifying intervention priorities, sharing data and analytical tools, and encouraging pilot actions at district scale. Such activities could be extended to international cooperation initiatives, especially in the Mediterranean region, for the dissemination of models and good practices of integrated water management and regional resilience.
