Ford is preparing to introduce its new sports car. In January, the manufacturer wanted to show for the first time where the performance division was heading.
Ford is working on a new sports car. The manufacturer wants to see the model for the first time on January 15 next year as part of the presentation of its new Formula 1 team. Those responsible announced this at a racing event.
Bringing technology from the racetrack to the road into production vehicles faster: Here’s what the newly formed Racing Division could do in the future. “The race track is our ultimate testing ground, where we accelerate developments that will soon be found under the hood and chassis of your next Ford,” said Ford Motorsport boss Mark Rushbrook, according to Auto Motor und Sport.
Ford has not provided specific information about the new model. The only thing that is clear is that this should be a series vehicle that is both road-legal and more oriented towards racing technology. Ford is talking about a car that will show how closely linked motorsport and future series development will be. The manufacturer did not provide further technical data or instructions.
Auto Motor und Sport believes a successor to the Ford GT is possible. This mid-engined sports car has two modern generations: the first arrived in 2005, the second in 2017. Production lasts until 2023 and is limited in both cases. A replacement has not been announced.
Other voices have speculated about a more developed Mustang variant. Recently a GTD version was presented that competes with models such as the Porsche 911 GT3.
Historically, Ford has repeatedly produced racing-themed sports cars. The modern GT series model is the Ford GT40, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times between 1966 and 1969. Its name comes from its flat 40-inch height. Over 100 units were built at that time.
