Monia Bortolotti was acquitted by the judge of the Bergamo Assize Court on charges of murdering her two newborn babies, Alice and Mattia, aged 4 and 2 months respectively. In the case of the little girl, murder was not proven in Court, whereas for the brother, the expert opinion established a total incapacity of understanding and will when the facts were taken into account.
Prosecutor Maria Esposito supported the need for a new psychiatric evaluation and asked for a life sentence and six months of daytime isolation for the twenty-nine year old. Therefore, Bortolotti cannot be attributed, but based on the same psychiatric evaluation he is considered socially dangerous, therefore he will remain in Rems (psychiatric facility for security measures) for at least ten years.
