Bundesliga: Albrecht steps down as club chairman at Hoffenheim

After the separation of Markus Schütz and Frank Briel as managing directors of Spielbetriebs-GmbH, the company lost TSG Hoffenheim now also their club chairman Jörg Albrecht. The 57-year-old man will immediately step down due to health reasons, the Bundesliga club announced. According to the articles of association, the position will initially be taken over by second chairman Christoph Henssler and third chairman Frank Engelhardt. According to TSG information, the new board will be elected at an extraordinary general meeting in a few weeks.

Albrecht: “Reaching the limit”

“I regret that today I have to give up a position that I accepted and carried out with great enthusiasm and commitment,” said Albrecht. “However, in recent weeks, I have reached the limits of my health, partly due to very heavy stress. Therefore, this step is logical and necessary, even though it is very difficult for me.”

A few days ago, two of the four members of the management team, Briel and Schütz, had to leave. His dismissal was “the result of intensive discussions with all parties involved.” In the end, it was mutually agreed to end the collaboration.

The trigger for the staff earthquake was a long-running dispute with player agent Roger Wittmann, which initially culminated in Wittmann being banned from the stadium and home. This was partially overturned by the Heidelberg Regional Court in September.
