Italy’s electric car charging network continues to grow, but the sector requires greater engagement from institutions and stakeholders to support this growth. According to Motus-E’s quarterly monitoring, as of 30 September 2025 there were 70,272 public utility charging points installed on the Peninsula, an increase of 2,711 units in the third quarter of this year and 9,933 units in 12 months. Looking at the toll road network alone, there are 1,274 charging points installed (out of 1,057 registered as of 30 September 2024), of which 86% are fast direct current type and 63% have a power exceeding 150 kW. The share of road service areas equipped with charging infrastructure reached 48%.
In relation to each Region, Lombardy still occupies first place in terms of points posted (14,242 points, +2,255 in the last 12 months), followed by Lazio (7,447 points, +1,230 in 12 months), Piedmont (6,777 points, +742), Veneto (6,408 points, +718) and Emilia-Romagna (5,489, +543). However, in the Provincial rankings, Roma once again ranked first in terms of points posted (5,881 points, +962 in 12 months), followed by Milan (4,970 points, +971 in 12 months), Napoli (3,120 points, +241), Turin (3,075 points, +324) and Brescia (1,843 points, +79). «The Italian charging network has achieved another significant step forward, but for operators to support this growth is becoming increasingly complicated», comments Motus-E president Fabio Pressi.
