BRUSSELS – The removal of customs duty exemptions for small packages entering the EU is “a response to the drastic increase in the volume of goods sold online and sent directly to customers in the EU from third countries, in particular China”. The EU Economic Commissioner said that Valdis Dombrovskis at the end of Ecofin. “In 2024 alone, 4.6 billion such goods were imported, 91% of which came from China. The introduction of duties on such shipments is an important step to level the playing field for European businesses and further strengthen our customs union.”
