Luis Rubiales, former president of the Spanish Football Federation, was attacked this Thursday in Madrid by a man who threw eggs at him during the presentation of his book Kill Rubialeswhere he traces the events that led to his departure from the presidency of the Royal Football Federation for kissing player Jennifer Hermoso without her consent. Shouting “Sinvergüenza”, a man intervened by throwing two eggs, which Rubiales dodged. The attacker was immobilized and taken out of the room, where the act continued without further incident.
Rubiales, who attacked the attacker and was stopped by those present, then explained why he tried to defend himself. “Luckily, they stopped me. I don’t know if I had a weapon or something. I saw a pregnant woman with two small children. I thought about the children. If I caught him now we would be in a different situation. I was very afraid. They are my friends. We all grew up together and I was very afraid. I don’t care if they throw eggs at me,” he stressed.
