In Rome, at the summit in Pamphilj Villa updated relations between Italy and Albania built by the prime minister Giorgia Meloni with his colleague Eddie Rama. Around the table were twenty ministers and deputy ministers of the two countries for the signing of sixteen agreements covering a variety of topics, from the defense sector to energy and health care. But there are stone guests, and that, symbolically, is the question of migrant center started in Albania, without success, at least until now.
“The responsibility is not on me – the prime minister threw up his hands – two years have passed and we will arrive two years later to do what we could have done two years before and I think everyone will take their own responsibility”. In short, the prime minister did not back down: “The protocol will work when the new pact on migration and asylum comes into force”. And he continued: “I know very well that the opposition considers this initiative ineffective, because we know the opposition’s position on the management of migration flows. What I want to say is, although this is causing a lot of discussion in Italy, in Europe there are groups that are now including it the majority of European Union member states, which meets to discuss migration before each European Council and which originates from the desire to develop innovative solutions to the phenomenon of migration flows. A group born to emulate such a model Italian-Albanian ProtocolAnd then he concluded: “Prime Minister Rama is my witness the fact that there are several European countries that have been trying to join in on the same initiative, the same protocol, for some time. Why? Because everyone understands that this kind of initiative has the potential to be revolutionary in the management of migration flows.”
The opposition attacked the prime minister. 5 Star Leader, Giuseppe Conte: “For the first time Meloni admitted that we lost two years in Albania when he said they would work. No, these centers are not working, yes a billion euros wasted and what’s more, he should look in the mirror because it’s his fault. We need to take that money back and put it on the streets to keep them safe. Streets where 25 thousand carabinieri and police disappeared and, above all, we need to dedicate ourselves to European redistribution because, meanwhile, with this failure we have seen 300 thousand migrants descend in Italy and remain here”. Criticism of Elly Schlein, Democratic Party secretary: “Albania is not my fault, said Meloni. He said that everyone will bear their own responsibility. But everyone will bear the responsibility except him. Because the blame for the fact that they failed and built inhumane, illegal and above all empty centers is the fault of the Prime Minister who sometimes, after three years in power, can take half the responsibility. He said ‘it will work, it will work and in fact even now it is not working. In fact, they have thrown away 800 million dollars made in Italy empty prison, they involved members of the police there when all over Italy police forces were having staffing problems, related to security. What for? To carry out useless and ineffective propaganda against the most vulnerable people.”
Meloni’s article looks at Rama: “Center in Albania? If it doesn’t work, it’s not my fault”. Conte and Schlein: “He wasted a billion” comes from Il Fatto Quotidiano.
