Body of Flynn Ganneval, student who disappeared on the sidelines of Halloween night in Lyon, found in Rhône

His friends and family had been looking for him for two weeks. Flynn Ganneval, a 19-year-old Austrian student at EM Lyon, has been missing since October 30. His body was finally found in the Rhône this Thursday, prosecutors announced, according to local media Le Progrès and Actu Lyon.

“The police are doing everything they can to find him. Nobody has heard anything from him, not even his parents,” complained user Omar Bchaiker in late October, on X, claiming to be a “friend” and sharing a photo of himself.

On his recovered body, “no lesions were found and there were no elements that would give rise to fear of third party intervention”, confirmed the Lyon prosecutor’s office to France 3 Rhône-Alpes, before an autopsy of the body was carried out.

“Extraordinary commitment”

On Halloween night, Fynn Ganneval, in costume, disappeared near the nightclubs L’Azar and Le Sucre, in the Confluence district, after leaving his group of friends. “He wanted to urinate again. I insisted on accompanying him because he was drunk but he didn’t want to,” explained his friend to Actu Lyon.

“For several days, his colleagues, relatives and volunteers organized an intensive search”, “his parents and relatives traveled from abroad to continue the search – a painstaking and expensive struggle, but guided by love and hope”, explained user Sabine Ganneval on an online fundraiser that raised almost 100,000 euros.

He congratulated himself, a few days later: “Thanks to your donations, specialists, institutions and law firms in Lyon are now working together with local authorities, police and consulates. They are systematically searching the area with drones and boats, with extraordinary commitment.”
