Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has ordered a comprehensive review of all major state-owned companies. This is a response to the ongoing corruption scandal in Ukraine’s energy and defense sectors. Companies in these fields should be subject to very thorough controls, especially with regard to transparency in government purchases, Swyrydenko wrote on Telegram.
Oil and gas company Naftogaz and Ukraine’s railways, among others, could be affected. Apart from that, advertisements for the position of head of gas pipeline systems have also been suspended.
As background, the name of one of the finalists was mentioned for a position related to corruption investigations, said Swyrydenko. “In conditions like these, the continuation of the tender procedure is not in accordance with the principles of transparency, honesty and trust in the process,” he wrote.
