Kiev suffered a “massive” attack on Friday morning, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko, warned, and asked residents to go to shelter.
“Air defense forces are operating in Kyiv,” Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram, reporting “massive enemy attacks on the capital,” which left at least two people injured in the eastern Dniprovsky district, including one hospitalized.
Loud explosions were heard in the city center, according to AFP journalists, who saw air defense systems activated against drones and missiles.
Since February 2022, Russia has carried out a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, having annexed Crimea in 2014 and supporting separatist groups in Donbass. The initial offensive, designed to quickly topple Ukraine’s government, failed in the face of resistance from the country and massive support from Europe and the United States.
The front then stabilized around a very long line, characterized by intense artillery engagements, increased use of drones, and a war of attrition that put pressure on both armies.
