In the United States, a man was shot… by his dog

What’s going on in this Pennsylvanian’s home? The scene occurred Tuesday evening, at a house in Shillington, near Philadelphia (eastern United States). Emergency services were called shortly after 11pm: a 53-year-old man had just been shot in the lower back.

When they arrived, police found the victim conscious and lying on the ground. Quickly, the first information revealed a situation that was both impossible and dramatic: the gun was apparently triggered by… one of the dogs in the house.

Based on information gathered by investigators, the man had cleaned the hunting rifle in the afternoon before putting it on his bed. He then allegedly sat in the same spot when one of his dogs jumped on the bed. This sudden movement was enough to trigger a shot, and the liquid hit its owner in the back.

At the time of the incident, only his son was in the house, but based on initial inspection, he was not in the room. Two other dogs were also there.

Firefighters and emergency medical services immediately treated the injured man, who was then transferred to a local hospital. The doctors immediately took him to the operating room for the first operation. The next day, hospital staff told investigators that a new operation would be necessary, without being able to provide specifics on the progress of his condition.

Current authorities prefer the theory of purely involuntary action. However, an investigation remains open to confirm the true circumstances of this unexpected shooting.
