A family of four from Hamburg traveled to Istanbul on Sunday. On Wednesday, the parents and their two children, aged three and six, were taken to hospital with suspected food poisoning due to nausea and vomiting, state news agency Anadolu reported, but were later released. The mother and daughter were later found unresponsive in the hotel. The whole family was taken to the clinic again, where both children died.
Eat stuffed clams and baked potatoes
Turkish authorities targeted a shop in the Besiktas district. “The construction believed to have caused the incident has been closed indefinitely by the relevant units in our city to protect public health and safety,” the Cumhuriyet newspaper quoted the Besiktas city government as saying. This incident remains under investigation.
The family is known to have eaten stuffed clams on Tuesday, Anadolu said. Other media reported, citing investigations, that the family was also said to have eaten stuffed baked potatoes (kumpir) in Ortaköy district.
