The Grafschaft Bentheim district is bracing for an outbreak of bird flu on a large laying hen farm that has a total of 436,000 animals. This includes 83,000 pullets. The district says there is an alleged case at one of the stables. So be it Animal samples were taken and clinically examined in all pens on the farm.
“The results of this sampling are provisionally negative – only one suspected case has been confirmed,” said district veterinarian Hermann Kramer. Final test results are not yet available.
“An outbreak at a company of this size is a particular challenge for us,” Kramer said. It’s about the lives of thousands of animals. Whether the entire population really has to be killed for epidemic protection reasons is currently being clarified with the Ministry of Agriculture.
