The family of Amine Kessaci, a 22-year-old environmentalist from Marseille known locally for his struggle with relatives of drug bandit victims after the savage death of his older brother in 2020, was once again in mourning on Thursday 13 November with the murder of his younger brother in broad daylight.
At around 2:30 p.m., a 20-year-old youth, unknown to police and justice services, was shot dead at 4e Marseille district, a stone’s throw from the city’s largest concert hall, Marseille prosecutor Nicolas Bessone said in a press release, without providing the victim’s identity. “A motorbike approached the victim’s vehicle which had just parked. The rear passenger of the motorbike fired several shots at the victim who was still in his vehicle. Several 9 mm cases were found at the location.”explained the prosecutor.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) learned from consistent sources that it is the younger brother of Marseille community activist and environmentalist Amine Kessaci, confirming information from Provence. Christine Juste, deputy environmental activist to the Mayor of Marseille and close to Amine Kessaci, tearfully confirmed the identity of the young victim. “I feel so sorry for my friend and her mother, no mother should have to go through this, losing two children. And I’m angry because we could do it, in 2e French city, killing people easily in broad daylight”he said.
Open an investigation
Chief Ecologist, Marine Tondelier, highlighted this in a tweet “terrible situation” for the loss of this second brother “who wants to be a police officer”. “We will be there for you. Today and the following days »he also called for the attention of his colleagues who are running in the European elections in 2024.
Prosecutors have opened an investigation into murders committed by organized gangs and criminal associations with the aim of committing crimes. The investigation has only just begun and any possible link to drug addiction is unknown at this stage. However, according to sources close to the investigation interviewed by AFP, Amine Kessaci has been placed under legal protection since the publication of a book at the start of the school year, a long letter addressed to his older brother, Brahim, who was killed in a narcotics killing.
The life of this politically-crazy young man, who grew up in a town in the northern districts, was turned upside down in 2020, during three savage murders that most notably befell Brahim, a gunshot victim whose body was later found charred in a vehicle near Marseille. He then founded the Conscience association, to help families, legally and psychologically, and change the way people viewed the dead who he considered victims.
After a final appeal by one of the defendants was rejected by the Court of Cassation in early November, the case must be tried next year. According to an AFP count, 14 people have lost their lives due to illegal drug use since the start of this year in Bouches-du-Rhône.
