“There is totalitarianism.” Prof Montanari’s latest outburst against the government

During the last episode of Piazza Pulita, another political and in-depth program hosted by Corrado Formigli on La7 every Thursday evening, a particularly intense attack was launched against the current center-right executive led by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni. Among the guests there was also the professor Tomaso Montanarirector of the University for Foreigners of Siena and, at the same time, an opponent of the majority of the current government. According to his reasoning, although obvious, today, in Italy, there will be a not-so-disguised “totalitarianism.”

Pressured by Formigli’s questions and discussions in the studio, Montanari denounced the climate he defined “totalitarian”. He highlighted how the Minister of Culture, Giuli, had given up half a billion in funding earmarked for cinema, a fact he considered unprecedented: “We have never seen a minister ask the Economy to remove funding from his ministry.” And he added that, in his opinion, they appear ready to do so “to destroy to harm the enemy”.

On the other hand, this is not the first time the professor has directly attacked Palazzo Chigi. In fact, in his last public appearance, Montanari accused Meloni of not understanding the reasons for the strike signed by CGIL and by Maurizio Landini. “Ordinary women earn less than Meloni. She never goes on strike”he always said in La7.

The reason, according to Montanari’s reasoning, is easy to say: “He never had a real strike, because he never did any real work. He was always in politics.” So he never found himself in a position “go on strike”.
