Final, Musetti: ‘I will not participate in the Davis Cup final’ – 2025 ATP Finals

“Considering my physical condition and my family situation (my partner is about to have a second child, ed.), with the agreement of captain Filippo Volandri, I decided not to participate in the Davis Cup final in Bologna”. This was stated by Lorenzo Musetti in a press conference after his defeat at the ATP Finals against Carlos Alcaraz.

“Of course there are a lot of regrets and a lot of disappointment – added Musetti – for the way I arrived at this competition. With a better approach, maybe I would have tried to play it, despite family commitments. So I’m sorry, but unfortunately this year I won’t be part of the team”.
Regarding his physical condition he explained: “Physical fatigue, I know how difficult it has been to finish the fights of the last few months and especially the last few weeks in one day, especially because the match against De Minaur was very tense, also from a physical point of view. I knew today I had to work a miracle: in the second set I definitely fainted, what kept me going in the first set was the fact that I served very well.”

Final: Musetti, “To be honest, I still have to set some goals for next year because the match ended half an hour ago, but we will reflect carefully on what to work on and the goals and in my opinion, I will try to aim higher than the top 5.” Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti said in his post-match press conference at the ATP Finals. “Of course it’s tempting to play in many ways – he said about tonight’s match -, partly to qualify for the group, partly for the ranking, of course to get the chance to play again. This year I don’t know how much I will finish, I think it will depend on tomorrow’s match between Jannik and Shelton. Of course the missing pieces, especially the one on grass, weigh a lot on me not being able to defend the semifinal at Wimbledon as I wanted, which had a significant influence on the points in the ranking and the mood – he underlined -. Because I come from an extraordinary period and the fact of losing in the first half in a very, very bad condition, physically, it also affected my mood a bit and this slowed me down a bit.”
