Following the state parliament’s decision to raise the age limit for children’s sick days from 12 to 14, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Minister of Social Affairs Stefanie Drese (SPD) wants to explore the possibility of this with her colleagues in the federal states. This was revealed by the minister’s spokesperson. Therefore, Drese also wants to talk to health insurance companies. If the number of paid sick days for a child is increased, the health insurance company will incur additional costs.
According to a ministry spokesperson, the Social Security Code should be amended to increase the age limit for child sickness benefits. This will be a matter for the Bundestag.
