This afternoon at Montparnasse station, a man coming from Rennes was expected by police officers as part of a domestic violence investigation. Seeing the police, the man showed a knife. A police officer then shot him in the leg with his gun.
It was 14.30. this Friday when a man from Rennes arrived at Montparnasse station. The 44-year-old man was waited at the station by police officers, as part of a domestic violence investigation carried out by the Kremlin-Bicêtre police station. According to judicial sources, the individual threatened to go to his ex-wife’s house during a family conflict and endanger her physical integrity.
According to the Paris Prosecutor’s Office, when he was arrested, he refused to comply and showed a knife. Under circumstances that remain to be clarified, his leg was hit by gunfire from a police officer from the railway brigade. He then stabbed himself in the throat. He was immediately treated by emergency services. His vital prognosis is not in jeopardy.
A pedestrian was shot in the leg. Like the neutralized person, he also received medical treatment.
Although little information is known about the ongoing domestic violence investigation, information was provided regarding the profile of the suspect, who was known to police and had been convicted of domestic violence.
According to judicial sources, he was found guilty on September 22, 2025 by the criminal court of Créteil, of several offences: violence resulting in incapacity for work for more than 8 days, by a partner, in the presence of a minor, threats to kill by a partner, and violence not resulting in incapacity for work, by an authority against a minor.
Based on these facts, the man who was arrested at Montparnasse station was sentenced to 18 months in prison with a probation period of 2 years. He also has the obligation to submit to treatment or the obligation to carry out accountability courses for the prevention and eradication of intimate partner violence and sexist violence.
Two investigations have been opened by the Paris public prosecutor’s office: one, entrusted to the 3rd judicial police district, concerns the attempted murder of a person in a position of public authority, by a knife-bearer. Another matter, entrusted to the IGPN, relates to the context of the use of firearms by someone holding public authority.
