The government wants to eliminate the obligation to renew identity cards for those over 70 years old

Minister of Public Administration Paolo Zangrillo said that in the next few days he will submit a proposal to parliament to remove the obligation to renew identity cards for people over 70 years of age: for Zangrillo the provision will serve to “make life easier for citizens”.

Zangrillo announced the decision during an intervention on the broadcast Next Economyfrom Giornale Radio: said the proposed removal of the identity card requirement will be included in the next simplification decision, which will include other measures to streamline bureaucratic procedures.

It is not known when the decision will be delivered: Zangrillo said it would be in the next few days, but the decision has been postponed and should be delivered in early September.

The identity card must be renewed every 10 years (every five years between the ages of 3 and 18, every three years before the age of 3) and can be renewed starting six months before it expires. To renew it, you have to contact your city of residence, make an appointment, show other identity documents, a passport photo, sign various documents and pay €16.79 for various bureaucratic procedures. Passport photos should be taken taking into account a series of criteria (shown here) including photo size, framing and subject position.
