In a dispute over the federal government’s planned pension package, Chancellor of the Exchequer Thorsten Frei (CDU) demanded a compromise from the Junge Union. “In the field of pension insurance, it will be important to reach an intelligent compromise in the next few weeks,” Frei said at the Junge Union German Day in Rust, south Baden.
There are no clear rules in the coalition agreement on how to continue pensions after 2031. There will be no easy solutions, Frei said. This must bring together the interests of young groups and elderly groups and distribute the burden fairly. The Junge Union sees it differently and points out that the draft law goes beyond what was agreed to in the coalition agreement.
Merz’s speech was eagerly awaited
Junge Union rejects planned retirement package. The United Youth Group faction threatened to block its implementation in Parliament. The lawmakers’ criticism was mainly directed at the announcement of billions in follow-up costs that may arise from stabilizing pension levels after 2031.
It is eagerly awaited how Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) will position himself in the dispute. His Germany Day speech is expected in the morning.
