“We knew it was risky”: two Belgian TikTokers evade Louvre security to hang their paintings

The two men, who are used to recording their pranks on social media, managed to hang their work illegally not far from the portrait of Monna Lisa.

The security of the Louvre museum has once again been compromised. If the facts this time are minimal compared to last month’s spectacular theft, two young Belgian TikTokers managed to thwart the security of the world’s most famous museum by hanging one of his works on the wall.

Neal and Senne, who made headlines by entering the Allianz Arena in Munich during the Champions League final after spending 27 hours in the toilet, showed their ingenuity again. To get into the museum with the painting, the two young men, accustomed to distractions and pranks, went through security with a removable LEGO frame, and their painting rolled up. “With such a large cut, it is impossible to get through security,” they explained in a video published this Friday on TikTok and Instagram.

Once inside, an hour before the museum closed, Neal and Senne reassembled their frames and put their paintings in and tried to hang them next to the Mona Lisa. Due to tight security in the room, they couldn’t hang it next to the world’s most famous painting.

“It’s impossible to put it on the wall of the Mona Lisa”

Pressed for time, the two Belgians still managed to hang a work representing them indoors, not far from the Monna Lisa. “We entered an hour before the end, but visitors had to leave the room half an hour later. We immediately hung the canvas. It was impossible to put it on the wall of the Mona Lisa, there were too many guards, but it was in the same room.”

The bold bet as security has been further strengthened since the robbery on October 19. “We knew it was risky. As soon as the work was hung, we immediately left. We didn’t want to provoke security or wait for their reaction,” say those who have successfully carried out a similar operation at the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent (Belgium).
