The first round in Levi, Finland, was all about America, showing off its competition. But behind them, there was a surprise from Germany.
Lena Dürr had a promising start in the first slalom of the season in alpine skiing and could go straight to the podium. The DSV athlete finished third in the first round in Levi, Finland.
In the second race of the Olympic season, Mikaela Shiffrin was at her best. The American set the best time on the “Levi Black” slope with a strong first stroke and was well ahead of the rest of the field. Your lead over Dürr is already 1.49 seconds. Albania’s Lara Colturi was second, 1.08 seconds behind.
Shiffrin seeks her 102nd World Cup win at Levi. The 30-year-old last claimed victory in the slalom at the World Cup finals in Sun Valley in March. Dürr, who has achieved 16 World Cup slalom podiums in his career, finished twelfth in the giant slalom at the start of the season in Sölden.
Emma Aicher, DSV’s 21-year-old young hope, is in seventh place after the first round (+1.92). Jessica Hilzinger (+3.32) missed qualifying for the second round (starting at 1pm on the live ticker on t-online). Romy Ertl, daughter of former world champion Martina Ertl, was knocked out of her World Cup debut after making a driving error. The 18 year old racer started the race with starting number 74.
