It was Kai Trump’s debut as a professional golfer. But things that happened to the 18 year old teenager turned out to be different from what he expected.

His first appearance on the big stage was not smooth: Kai Trump clearly failed to qualify for “The Annika” tournament in Belleair, Florida, which is a result sufficient to qualify for the deciding round. The 18-year-old was left last on the field in his professional debut.

Trump needed a total of 158 hits in the first two rounds – 27 more than either leader. That left him with 17 shots to qualify for the final two rounds.

After a weak start, he managed to make significant improvements in the $3.25 million event: after a round of 83 at the start, he played 75 on the second day. This means he is able to reduce the gap on the field.

Trump had four birdies and almost a hole-in-one. At the same time he made triple bogey. “I was obviously very nervous the first day. I think the nerves got the better of me,” Trump said. On the second day, “I honestly felt very calm and composed. That’s why I played better.”

Kai Trump is the grandson of former US President Donald Trump. Amateur golfers were not present at the tournament. He received support from Tiger Woods. The 15-time primary winner has been in a relationship with Trump’s mother, Vanessa Trump, since March.
