If the call for mobilization reached a national scale with demonstrations in almost 40 French cities – including the largest – this was mainly because the Child Collective was present in all departments, both metropolitan and abroad. Thus, there are 100 departmental groups, six thematic groups, four support groups, one assembly and one national steering group.

The “children’s movement”, which was launched in April 2022, defines itself as a “social, cultural and political movement” and fights against what they call adultism, which they describe as “a system of oppression and domination by adults over children and young people”. In addition to the alarming figures of violence highlighted in cases such as Bétharram or Le Scouarnec, the stated aim of the movement is that no generation of young people should “live in fear”. The initiative began in the midst of the 2022 presidential campaign, and its founders regret that the topic of children’s situations is completely absent from public debate.

The voice of every activist who is part of this movement has the same value. All actions are decided participatively and collegially. There is only one condition to be part of it: comply with the children’s charter.
