“There are no excluded scenarios.” Salvini’s doubts about Aspi: reflections on concessions

Matteo Salvini “annoyed” with Highway for Italyso much so that no scenario is ruled out. This was reported by a League source. From Carroccio they informed that the deputy prime minister will maintain a critical position towards Aspi, following this issue continuously in discussions with technicians and party leaders. According to reports, the owner of MIT will confirm “his frustration with Aspi, and for this reason he is in constant contact with the coaches and managers of the League”.

The crux of the deputy prime minister’s doubts is i number company: “Shareholders boast margins above 8%, but there is no appetite for cutting extra profits (although there are historical moments where sacrifices are necessary) and maintenance interventions are slow”. The same source added that, in this context, Salvini is evaluating every possible option regarding relations with toll road concessionaires, so that “does not rule out any scenario”. And be careful, according to the same rumors “not even regarding the future of the concession”.

Yesterday the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport issued a note on reconstruction request submitted to toll road managers. On this occasion, MIT recalled that Salvini had reiterated the need to include, in the new economic-financial plan, toll restrictions also through a reduction in dividends. On the same occasion, Salvini asked for clarification regarding the progress of 45 projects approved and financed by the ministry, which were far behind schedule compared to the specified deadline.

To these interventions must be added the four projects considered a priority, with a total value of more than 6.5 billion euros: the Gronda di Genova, the sub-harbour tunnel, the Passante di Bologna and the junction connected to the Fontanabuona motorway system on the A12.

MIT points out that the Aspi executive project is still missing for this work. The press release also emphasizes that compliance with commitments regarding all planned work will be a decisive element in this regard renewal evaluation from the toll road concession.
