Defending champions Germany made a shock early exit from the U17 World Cup in Qatar. The team coached by coach Marc-Patrick Meister lost 0-1 (0-1) in Doha to Burkina Faso in the last 32 of the team so they were eliminated in the last 16.
In the preliminary round matches, the young German footballers reached the next round as group winners with only one win against El Salvador (7-0). Two years ago, the U-17 team won the World Cup title in Indonesia under current women’s national coach Christian Wück. Burkina Faso will now face Uganda in the last 16 of the African duel.
Burkina Faso vigorously defended its lead
The German team struggled for a long time against the African team after falling behind early on. With his second goal of the tournament, Mohamed Zongo gave Burkina Faso the lead in the 5th minute with a superb long-range strike.
