In Portugal, the death toll from Hurricane Claudia rose to three after a person disappeared at a camping site

At least one person died on Saturday November 15 in Albufeira, a tourist town in southern Portugal, due to strong winds that swept through the Algarve region, under orange alert in the face of hurricane Claudia which has been ravaging the country for several days. Two days earlier, an elderly couple was found dead in their home near Lisbon, following flooding caused by heavy rain the night before, bringing the death toll from the bad weather to three.

THAT “extreme wind phenomenon” which hit a campsite in the tourist town of Albufeira, causing the death of a woman “British nationality” 85 years old, said the regional civil protection commander, Vitor Vaz Pinto, during a press conference on Saturday. Next, at a restaurant in a seaside resort near Albufeira, “The partial collapse of the roof (…) caused 20 injuries”also informs civil protection.

On Saturday morning, Portugal’s civil protection said it had recorded more than 3,300 incidents since Wednesday, mainly flooding and fallen trees across Portuguese territory, due to the impact of tropical storm Claudia.
