Olympique de Marseille was sanctioned by UEFA for an incident that occurred during the Champions League defeat against Atalanta Bergamo (1-0) on November 5, European football’s governing body announced on Saturday, November 15.
OM was punished with the partial closure of the Stade-Vélodrome’s south stand during its next Champions League match, on November 25 against Newcastle, according to a disciplinary committee decision published on UEFA’s website.
The Marseille club also faces several fines totaling more than 71,000 euros for fireworks, throwing objects or even using “laser pointer”.
In addition, goalkeeping coach Alexandre Salvat was suspended for two matches “for insulting or making offensive statements against an official” when losing against Atalanta, suffered at the end of the match following a controversial action.
