About 40 fans threw metal poles and chair shells: the police had to intervene at the match in Meerbusch. Six people were injured.

There was a massive riot at the Lower Rhine Cup match between FC Büderich and Wuppertaler SV. After the hosts took a 1-0 lead shortly before the end of the game, a group of around 40 WSV fans stormed the inside of the stadium. As police reported, the rioters used objects such as metal bars, grille elements and chair shells as projectiles.

Emergency services immediately intervened and prevented the conflict from spreading to nearby people. Batons and pepper spray were used. Six people suffered mild eye irritation and had to be treated by emergency services, he said. The police officer was not injured.

Police temporarily arrested the group to determine their identities and initiated criminal proceedings for breach of the peace. After the action was over, the fans were taken back to Wuppertal by bus. Criminal police are investigating.
