Farewell to Schwabing: Munich’s legendary laughing and shooting community is on the move. This Sunday (1pm) the sign will be taken from the “shop” and transported to the other side of the Isar by “march” and public transport.
The cabaret institution’s future main venue will be the FatCat in Gasteig, which is in need of renovation, and will become a temporary cultural centre. The sign will then be ceremoniously removed at approximately 2 p.m. To celebrate the day there will be free beer and “stronger dancing tea,” as stated in the announcement of the parade performance.
New and old boss Till Hofmann initiated the move and thus marked a clear breakthrough after the legendary cabaret scene of Dieter Hildebrandt and Co. has had roots in Schwabing for decades. Hofmann has been the boss, once left behind in the dispute – and now he is back.
It was not until November 2024 that the laughing and shooting society reopened in its main building with great nostalgia and in the presence of Hildebrandt’s widow, Renate. But these days, there are almost no games there.
The laughing and shooting community is now “back under the wing of Till Hofmann and his team, who will now smooth its feathers and settle it in a new location with enthusiastic calm,” he said.
